Elwin Richard “Dick” Elliott

BRAMPTON — Elwin Richard “Dick” Elliott, 91, of Brampton, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2018, surrounded by family at the Lakeview Assisted Living Center in Gladstone, where he was currently residing.

Dick was born on August 8, 1926, to Hugh and Maude (Burke) Elliott in Sears, Mich. Dick was united in marriage in 1947 to Donna Alexander and they made their first home in Bay City, Mich. Prior to moving to the U.P., they had four children together. They then made their home in Brampton and added another daughter to their family. Donna “D.J.” preceded Dick in death on Jan. 27, 2018. It was obvious to his family that his heart was broken and that he needed to go be with the love of his life. Dick and Donna were never meant to be apart.

Dick was hardworking, serving as manager of the CITGO Terminal in Kipling for over 25 years. He put a lot of labor into his 80-acre property in Brampton, too. He spent hours on his lawnmower each week to keep his yard in pristine condition, and had an incredible green-thumb, tending to his large garden for many years.

He was an avid sportsman, with a long history of hunting on the back 40 of his property. It was a passion he was fortunate enough to enjoy into his late eighties. Dick was also a fisherman, spending many sunny days out on Lake Michigan seeking the next big catch. The Upper Peninsula was a true haven for him, and he took every opportunity he could to soak in its beauty.

Dick’s love for baseball, especially the Detroit Tigers, was no secret. He spent countless hours in front of the television analyzing the game and rooting for his team. While he was a diehard fan of the Tigers, there was another more important team that he never missed a chance to cheer on — his family. You could always find Dick in the bleachers supporting his many grandkids as they competed in various sports throughout the years.

While his sarcastic sense of humor often shone through, at his core, Dick was a straight-shooter — your typical hardy American man with masculine morals and an authenticity that gave comfort to those around him. He served as the strong foundation of his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include, sons, Michael (Julie) Elliott and William (Kathy) Elliott, both of Gladstone; daughters, Patricia (Dale) Gibson, Kathy (Steve) Sheedlo and Marcey (John) Skwor, all of Gladstone; eight grandchildren, Tina (Jim) Brassick of Gladstone, David (Barb) Elliott of Petoskey, Mich., Christina (Joe) Hellberg of Gladstone, Carrie (Christopher) Saari of Gladstone, Brad (Kayla) Elliott of Brampton, Greg (Chelsea) Elliott of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Ryan (Evelyn) Thompson of El Paso, Texas, and Kelsie (Michael) Dewar of Marquette; ten great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents and wife Donna, Dick’s brother Earl preceded him in death.

Dick’s family will receive friends on Monday April 2, 2018, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services celebrating the life of Elwin “Dick” Elliott will follow at 5:30 p.m. with pastor Diane Srutowski officiating. A luncheon will be held immediately after at the Gladstone Yacht Club. He will be laid to rest next to his wife Donna at the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells.
