George T. ‘Terry’ LaJoie

POWERS — George T. “Terry” LaJoie, 70, of Powers, passed away at home early Sunday morning, Jan. 28, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.

George was born in Sault Ste. Marie on April 25, 1947, son of George and Earla (Hart) LaJoie. He was raised in Pickford, Mich., and graduated from Pickford High School.

He attended trade school to become a boilermaker. He worked for Local Union 169 as a boilermaker until his retirement in 2001.

George loved to golf and was a member of the Highland Golf Course. He enjoyed watching sports on TV and following politics, Karaoke, bowling and playing cards with his family. He was an avid hunter. He always enjoyed bragging about his children and grandchildren, whom he cherished.

He was a member of the American Legion and past Shriner.

In addition to his wife, Kathy, George is survived by his children, Brian (Jodi) LaJoie of Escanaba, Melanie (Kyle) Stemink of Gladstone, Roberta (Dean) Kerr of Wichita, Kan., George (Melissa) LaJoie of Salem, MO; grandchildren, Dustin, Kyle (Holly), Caylib, Zachary, Britini (Matt), Stephen, Gracie, Colton, Lucas, Trevor, Braden, Aurora, Ryan, Emily (Jackson), George E., and Faith; great-grandchildren, Gwyneth, Hazel, Summer, Taydom, Phoenix, Hadley and Kently; very dear mother-in-law, Ora Eggers of Clinton Iowa; several loving brothers- and sisters-in-law; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and loving pets, Sylvee and Dyna.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, William Cody and Carla LaPointe; and very loving grandparents.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba from 2 to 4 p.m. EST.

Burial will take place in Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
