Anita L. Herbst

ESCANABA — Anita L. Herbst, 79, of Escanaba, passed away Friday morning, Jan. 19, 2018, at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay, Wis. She was born on Oct. 12, 1938, in Escanaba, the daughter of Earl and Edna (Jokela) Therriault. Anita grew up in Escanaba and was a member of the Escanaba High School Graduating Class of 1957. Following graduation, Anita was employed as a nurses aide at OSF St. Francis Hospital. The former Anita Therriault married Gordon Herbst on March 23, 1963, in Escanaba. Together, they shared almost 55 years of marriage and raised six children. Anita loved being a homemaker, caring for her family. She enjoyed watching the Game Show Network on TV and pressing her luck on scratch off lottery tickets. Family meant the world to Anita and she loved being around people. Anita was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hyde where she was part of the Dart Ball League. She was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be deeply missed.

Anita L. Herbst is survived by husband, Gordon of Escanaba; six children, Cathy (Dave) Lutzow of Green Bay, WI, Mary (Cliff) Posenke of Green Bay, Wis., Dale (Cathy) Herbst of Menominee, Mich., Steve (Lora) Herbst of Porterfield, Wis., Dean Herbst of Oak Park, Ill., and Cheryl (Brent) Levesque of Escanaba; seven grandchildren, Heidi Van Den Elzen, Jennifer Posenke, Angela Posenke, Steven Herbst, Jamie Bacsik, Brandon Deiter, and Brittany Levesque; 10 great-grandchildren, Kori, Bennett, Carmen, Kennedy, Landon, Cashton, Keiela, Lainey, Dahlia, and Savannah; sister, Margaret (George) Gotschall of Arlington Heights, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

Anita was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Edna Therriault.

Visitation will be held from 12 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Anita will follow at 3 p.m. Thursday in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ronald Zindler officiating. A luncheon will be served afterward in the fellowship area of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hyde. Burial will take place in the spring of the year in the West Ford River Cemetery.
