SPALDING — Grace Mary Hanchek, 95, of Spalding, passed away early Tuesday morning Dec. 19, 2017 at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility.

Grace Mary Labelle was born Oct. 22, 1922 in Wilson Mich., daughter to the late Henry and Emma (LaVigne) LaBelle.

After high school graduation Grace moved to Detroit and started her working career.

On Oct. 27, 1945, Grace married Theodore Hanchek at St. Francis Xavier Church in Spalding. Together they worked on the family farm. She was a farmer’s wife who was like a weather vane, always knowing what the weather was going to be like each day on the farm. Theodore preceded her in death on June 15, 1995.

Grace always enjoyed her garden. She enjoyed cooking, baking, reading, cross stitching pictures and watching the “Young and the Restless.” In her later years she enjoyed cutting her lawn, cutting her own grass till the age of 93!

She was a member of St. John Neumann Church and St. Ann’s Alter Society.

Grace always loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Each and every one of them had a special place in her heart.

Grace is survived by her daughters, Karen (Chandler) Worley of Billings, Mont., Joyce (Gary) Broeder of Wayside, Wis., and Rita (Doug) Gasparick of Bark River; sons, Robert (Michelle Davis) Hanchek of Powers and Theodore (Cindy) Hanchek of Wilson; grandchildren, Stephanie Smith of Billings, Mont., Nicole (Scott) Jetton of Wayside, Wis., Lisa (John) McMahon of Kaukauna, Wis., Nick (Channon) Hanchek of Wilson, Angie (Jason) LeQuia of Kaukauna, Wis., Russell (Beth Crampton) Hanchek of Wilson, Amy (Tony) Martin of Perronville, Amanda (Troy) Verhagen of Powers, Kacie (Patrick) Janisse of Stonington and Dyllion Hanchek of Pleasant Prairie, Wis.; 26 great grandchildren; sisters, Joyce Lickman, Elaine (Jerry) Thiry, and Nancy (Francis) Betters; and brother, Kenneth (Marge) LaBelle.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Emma; husband, Theodore; siblings, Lorraine Minerick, Betty Lickman and Barbara Lenca, three brothers as infants; and granddaughter Natalie Smith.

The family will receive friends at St. John Neumann Church in Spalding on Wednesday, Dec. 27, from 3-6 p.m. (CST) with the Wake Service at 5:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held Thursday morning from 10 a.m. (CST) until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. (CST) at St. John Neumann Church.

Burial will take place in Spalding Twp. Cemetery spring 2018.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John Neumann Church.

The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at Pinecrest for the wonderful care given to their mother.
