David Donald Helman

STONINGTON — David Donald Helman, 60 of Stonington, Mich., passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017, at his home.

David was born Nov. 25, 1957, in Escanaba, Mich., to Donald and Carol “Jean” (Popko) Helman. He was raised in Gladstone, Mich., and was a 1976 graduate of Gladstone High School.

After graduation, David enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served 16 years, until his honorable discharge in June 1992. He then moved back to Gladstone, Mich.,, and began his career with Andex Industries, Inc., where he was an employee for over 25 years.

David enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers.

David is preceded in death by his father, Donald David Helman, deceased in 2012; brother, Charles “Chuck” Helman, deceased in 2015; and sister, Pamela Corcoran, deceased November 2017.

David is survived by his daughter, Chelsey Elizabeth Helman of Oxford, MS; mother, Carol “Jean” Helman of Gladstone, Mich.; siblings, Tina Donovan, Debbie Popour and Danny Helman, all of Gladstone, Mich.; Lori (Billy) Ragsdale, Mary (Marshall) Brown, and Joey (Laurie) Helman all of Belton, S.C.; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and his dog, “Lady”

The family will receive friends on Thursday, Dec. 21, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Gladstone. Military honors will be presented at 3:30 p.m. by the Gladstone American Legion Post 71. Funeral services will follow at 4 p.m. at the church with Pastor Tom Otis officiating. A luncheon will be served following the services in the fellowship hall.
