Loraine M. Segerstrom

COOKS — Loraine M. Segerstrom, 92, of Cooks, Mich., passed away on April 2, 2017, at her home in Inwood Township.

She was born July 19, 1924, in Nahma, Mich., the daughter of John and Louise (Nedeau) Turek and attended school in Nahma.

On June 15, 1946, she married Edward G. Segerstrom in Nahma. They lived in Marquette, Kalamazoo, Detroit, and Valparaiso following Ed’s work, settling in Leo, Indiana for 20 years. In 1975 they moved to Cooks and Ed preceded her in death on Aug. 30, 1987.

Loraine was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Cooks, the Women of the Moose, and the V.F.W. Auxiliary. She enjoyed baking, playing cards and bingo, fishing, and spending time with her family and grandchildren at the cabin on Thunder Lake.

Loraine is survived by her daughters, Joan Gossett of Cooks and Gale (Rick) Wetzel of Auburn, Ind.; sons, Raymond E. Segerstrom of Cooks and George (Diane) Segerstrom of Blue Eye, Mo.; grandchildren, Melissa Wetzel, Julie Casey, Jason Wetzel, Corey Wetzel, and Greg Segerstrom; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Beatrice Hayman of Berkeley, Mich.; along with nieces and nephews.

In addition her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Marie Olive Segerstrom; her granddaughter, Jody Lynn Clark; her sister, Leone Land; and her brothers, Homer, Francis, and Gerald Turek.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, at the Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 6, at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Cooks with Father Mariusz Sierhart officiating.

Burial will be in the New Garden Cemetery at Garden Township. Memorial donations may be directed to Hiawatha Behavioral Health, 125 N. Lake St., Manistique, MI 49854.
