William N. ‘Bill’ Noyes
ESCANABA — William N. “Bill” Noyes, 91, of Escanaba, passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at his home following a lengthy illness.
He was born on April 14, 1925, in Escanaba, son of Ralph and Cora (Norman) Noyes. Bill was a lifelong resident of Escanaba. On April 23, 1955, Bill married Marjorie L. Sanders in Escanaba. She preceded him in death on July 18, 2005. On March 11, 2006, he married Marlene (Sopina) LaPalm at Blessed Hope Baptist Church in Escanaba.
He attended The Enshaw School in Ford River.
Bill worked at the Jack Whitney Mink Farm from 1944 to 1947, then went to work for Roy Ness Contracting from 1951 to 1958. He worked for the Operating Engineers Local 324 until his retirement in 1986.
He enjoyed deer and rabbit hunting, gardening, taking a walk in the woods, metal detecting, making knives, and going to the Retro to dance and listen to music. He also enjoyed spending time with his dog, Princess.
He was a member of Blessed Hope Baptist Church, the Sons of the American Legion Post 71, and Operating Engineers Local 324.
Among survivors include his wife, Marlene of Escanaba; stepchildren, Michelle (Steve) Robich, Maurice (Rigel) LaPalm, Allen (Heather) LaPalm, Ellary (Joy) LaPalm, all of Escanaba, and Orion (Holly) LaPalm of DePere, Wis.; 18 step-grandchildren; nephew, William Erickson and nieces, Carol (Allen) Pilon and Mary (Allen) Pearson.
William was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Marjorie; stepson, Carl M. Noyes; and brothers, Joe, Paul, and Albert “Al” Noyes.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 18, from 10 a.m. to noon at Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. The Gladstone Sons of the American Legion Post 71 will conduct a service at 11 a.m. The funeral service will follow at noon at the funeral home with Pastor Lewis Hague officiating.
Burial will take place this spring in West Ford River Cemetery.
