Elizabeth L. Potvin

WELLS – Elizabeth L. Potvin, 83, of 6648 N 3rd St., Wells, passed away Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, at her home with her loving husband and daughters by her side. She was born on Aug. 29, 1933, in Escanaba and was the daughter of Andrew and Kathryn (Gersich) Bakran. She attended Escanaba Area Schools and was a graduate of Escanaba High School with the class of 1951.

Elizabeth worked as a secretary for St. Francis Hospital. She later filled in as a secretary for her father-in-law at the coal docks in Wells. On May 7, 1955, the former Elizabeth L. Bakran married Gerald Potvin in Wells at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Together, they shared 61 years of marriage together and made their home in Wells.

Elizabeth was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Wells. She loved her religion and took it very seriously. She was a member of the Women’s Guild, taught CCD, was a Eucharistic minister, was extremely dedicated to her weekly obligation at the Adoration Chapel at OSF St. Francis Hospital, participated in and loved attending the Players de Noc performances, and having lunch with her girlfriends. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a huge part of her life and she was extremely devoted to them.

Elizabeth L. Potvin is survived by her husband, Gerald of Wells; daughters, Vicky (Edward) Giguere of Escanaba, and Debbie Potvin of Marinette; granddaughter, Jaime (Jason) McCarthy of Escanaba; grandson, Paul (Nicole) Gregorie of Green Bay; great-grandsons, Pryce and Kasen Gregorie of Green Bay; great-granddaughter, Isla McCarthy of Escanaba; sisters, Ann Goodreau of Iron Mountain, and Patti Servant of Escanaba; brothers, Tom (Eddie) Bakran of Green Bay, and John (Judy) Bakran of Abrams; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Bakran and Dolly Ferrari; and brothers, Steve Bakran, Rudy Bakran, Joe Bakran, and Frank Bakran.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Elizabeth will follow at 5 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Wells with Father Rick Courier officiating. A luncheon will follow in the St. Anthony Catholic Church fellowship area. Burial will take place in Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
