Bob was born April 21, 1927, in Gladstone, the son of James and Jennie (Anderson) Young. He was raised in Gladstone and attended the Gladstone schools. Following school, Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served until his honorable discharge. Upon his discharge, Bob returned to Gladstone. On May 31, 1947, he was united in marriage to the former Betty Jean M. Waeghe at St. Joseph Church in Escanaba and together the couple made their home and raised their family in Gladstone. Throughout his life, Bob was employed at the Soo Line Railroad, Marble Arms and EMP. Bob was employed for more than 20 years as a master knife maker at Marble Arms before gaining employment and retiring from EMP. Bob was an avid outdoorsman and deer hunter. He spent many wonderful years at his hunting camp, “Camp Goodnuff”, and enjoyed making custom knives and spending quality time with his family and grandchildren.

In addition to his loving wife Betty, Bob is survived by: son, Jim (Terri) Young of Gladstone, Mich.; daughters, Cherie (Dave) Phalen, Kathy (Jay) Pepin, LuAnn (Archie) Henderson and Bobbi (Derrell) Coates, all of Gladstone, Mich.; brother, Willard Young of Gladstone, Mich.

Also surviving are many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, James and Jennie; sister, Pat Syverson; grandson, Brandon Coates; and granddaughter, Dayna Phalen.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Mass of Christian Burial will follow visiting hours at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday at All Saints Church with Rev. Fr. Arnold Grambow officiating. Luncheon will follow in the All Saints Parish Hall. Bob will be laid to rest in the Fernwood Cemetery in the spring. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting with arrangements.
