Jerry Allen Herod

NAHMA – Jerry Allen Herod, 69, of 14321 Nahma Shores in Nahma, Mich. passed away Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015, at his home in Nahma. He was born Jan. 15, 1945 in Detroit, Mich., and was the son of Allen Dewitt and Nettie (Dabbs) Herod. Jerry graduated from South Eastern High School in 1963. He then served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War from July of 1965 until he was honorably discharged in October of 1968. He was employed for 10 years at Ken Brown Inc. Chrysler Dealership in Detroit as a certified master mechanic and then he was employed as the service director for 26 years at Northwestern Dodge in Ferndale until his retirement in 2004. Jerry married the former Gloria Legault on Sept. 30, 1972, at the Congregational Church in Isabella. In 2004, after Jerry’s retirements, Jerry and Gloria moved to Nahma. Jerry’s retirement job was working for the Indian Lake State Park Campground in the summertime. He was a former member of the Grace United Church in Fraser; Mich.

Jerry Allen Herod is survived by his wife, Gloria; son, Todd (Nicole) Herod of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughter, Jamie Herod of Las Vegas, Nev.; grandson, Andrew Herod; sister, Judy Herod of Harrison Township, Mich.; brothers, Ross Herod of Warren, Mich., Ken Herod of Warren, Mich., Michael (Jeanne) Herod of New Baltimore, Mich.; sister-in-law, Chris Herod of LasVegas, Nev.; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, David and Ronald Herod.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m., Monday, Jan. 12, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Delta County veteran’s services will be conducted at 6 p.m. Monday at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services celebrating the life of Jerry Allen Herod will be held at 6:15 p.m. Monday at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Elizabeth Hill officiating. Burial will take place in the Moss Lake Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to the family of Jerry Herod for a memorial to be determined at a later date.
