Gerald Lee Guindon

ESCANABA – Guindon, Gerald Lee, Escanaba, Mich. Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away at home Friday morning, Oct. 31, 2014, at the age of 78.

Gerald (Jerry) Lee Guindon was born Oct. 8, 1936, the son of the late Adrina (Chobot) Guindon. He graduated from Escanaba High School with the Class of 1955 after attending St. Joseph School. Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Air Force after graduating from high school and was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. He later was stationed in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and completed his four years at Clark Air Force Base in The Philippine Islands. He worked in Milwaukee, Wis., for a short time and then was hired as a fireman at EL&S Railroad. He also worked for the U.S. Geological Survey until 1967. After moving back to Escanaba, Jerry was a furniture salesman and buyer for Home Supply Company and then at Kobasic Home Furniture until 2001. After retiring, he could be found many mornings at local coffee shops where he loved to socialize with his coffee buddies.

Jerry was one of the original members of The Optimist Club in the late 60s. He enjoyed playing softball and fast pitch for the Merchants, and he umpired for the Escanaba city leagues. Jerry loved to read, listen to Frank Sinatra, watch golf, and he was an avid Green Bay Packers, New York Yankees, and University of Michigan fan. Jerry enjoyed watching sports with his family. He also enjoyed camping with friends and family, and he cherished spending time with his children and grandkids. Jerry was a member of St. Joseph and St. Patrick Parish in Escanaba.

On Feb. 24, 1967, he married Susan A. Eagle and continued to spend the next 47 years loving her and building a family that will continue to forever love him in return.

Surviving members are his wife, Susan A. (Eagle) Guindon: four children and their spouses, Diane and Tim (Guindon) Schrems from Jenison, Mich., Darren and April (Hurkmans) Guindon from Escanaba, Mich., Allen and Kristina (Lukkari) Guindon from Minneapolis, Minn., Brian and Megan (Meeuwesen) Guindon from Escanaba, Mich.; 10 grandchildren, Sarah, Adam, Emily Schrems, Brett, Vincent, Owen, Sam, Lily, Isaac, and Cedric Guindon.

Surviving siblings include: Bonnie Marenger, sister, Charles (Wendy) Sirola, brother, Susan (Boyd) Corrigan, sister, Richard (Judy) LaCosse, brother, Patty (Tom) Eugate , sister, Steve (Alice) LaCosse, brother, Dan (Debbie) LaCosse, brother, and Linda (Jim) Norgart, sister.

He was preceded in death my his mother, Adrina (Cobot) Guindon; his siblings, Donald and Hazel Guindon, Monica and Jack Curtis, Lucielle and Emil Sirola, Rita and Raymond Cousineau, Marcel and Gwen Guindon and Tom LaCosse.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Nov. 4, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba. Military Honors will be presented by the Delta County Veterans Council at 4 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 5 p.m. at the St. Joseph and St. Patrick Parish in Escanaba with Rev. Fr. Jamie Ziminski officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall. Gerald will be laid to rest in the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
