ESCANABA – June Helen Andrea Nelson, 82, of 1900 23rd. Ave. S., Escanaba, passed away Monday April 29, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of June Helen Andrea Nelson will be celebrated at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eric Heskin officiating. Burial will take place in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery. ESCANABA – June Helen Andrea Nelson, 82, of 1900 23rd. Ave. South in Escanaba passed away Monday, April 29, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital. She was born May 8, 1930, in Chicago, and was the daughter of Atley and Hulda (Jensen) Peterson. June graduated from Escanaba High School in 1947.

The former June Peterson married the love of her life Carlton “Cotton” Nelson on June 15, 1950, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Escanaba and he preceded her in death on April 29, 2001. After high school, June worked at the Fair Store in Escanaba before purchasing “Lee’s Style Shop” in Escanaba. June rename the business “Andrea’s Boutique” and continued to operate the boutique in downtown Escanaba. June opened a second location of “Andrea’s Boutique” in the newly-constructed Delta Plaza Shopping Center. She later closed the downtown boutique and continued to operate in the Delta Plaza until she sold the store and retired in 1990. After her retirement, June and Cotton enjoyed winters in Texas with June’s best friend and sister Millie and Jim Olson. She was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church, Hiawatha Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star serving as Worthy Matron, she skated in the “Ice Capades” skating show in Escanaba and did her own production in the program and was a founding member of the local Go Cart Racing Club.

June Helen Andrea Nelson is survived by: Children, Kim (Patricia Coyne) Nelson of Kalamazoo, Kay Andrea Nelson of Escanaba; grandchildren, Sean (Andrea) Nelson, Stacey James Nelson, Kelly Ann Walch, Leslie Ann Walch; two great-granddaughters, Abigail Sjoholm and Reagan Carter and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by Sisters Mildred “Millie” Olson and Betty Jane Peterson.
