William ‘Bill’ Hirn

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – William “Bill” Hirn, 84, of Las Vegas passed away on April 12, 2013, at Nathan Adelson Hospice Center due to complications from a stroke four days earlier. His remains were cremated by the Neptune Society. No services will be held in accordance with Bill’s wishes.

Bill was born Aug. 26, 1928, in Escanaba, the son of Dr. Edward and Sarah (Miller) Hirn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Edward and Raymond; sister, Bette Jewel; and special cousin, Clarice Messier.

In addition to his life partner and best friend of 48 years, Joseph Rogers; Bill is survived by his brothers, Ronald (Barbara) Hirn of Appleton, David (Shirley) Hirn of Escanaba, many nieces, nephews, and special nephew, David (Carol) Hirn, who spent happy times together with them in Las Vegas.

Bill received his undergraduate education at Western Michigan University and graduate studies at the University of Michigan. He held teaching positions in Muskegon and Ann Arbor, Mich. Bill was director of the Spring Valley Reading Center in New York. Upon Bill’s retirement from education and Joe’s from CBS they chose to live in Benidorm, Spain, on the south east coast, along the Mediterranean Sea. After 24 years they returned to the United States and settled in Houston, Texas, later relocating in Las Vegas, Nev.

Bill was an avid reader and writer, and had a love for music and art. He and Joe loved to travel, meeting people around the world, and enjoyed many cruises. Bill will be dearly missed by family and friends.
