STEPHENSON, Wis. — One person is dead after the rollover of a UTV (utility terrain vehicle, or side-by-side) in Marinette County. The incident occurred Saturday.
At 3:04 p.m. on April 4, Marinette County Dispatch was notified of a single UTV crash that happened on Caldron Falls Road near Fawn Lane in the Town of Stephenson. The caller, who was an off-duty Marinette County Sheriff’s detective, reported coming upon the UTV, which was rolled over on the side of the roadway. The detective stopped and observed there were two people pinned under the UTV and immediately began rendering aid, Marinette County Sheriff Randy Miller announced in a press release.
The investigation indicates that a UTV operated by Brooke D. Boulanger, age 40, of Crivitz, Wis. was traveling north on Caldron Falls Road when she failed to negotiate a curve and rolled over. Boulanger, who was not wearing a seatbelt or helmet, sustained fatal injuries. A passenger in the UTV, who was also not wearing a seatbelt or helmet, also sustained injuries and was transported for medical treatment.
Speed, alcohol, and failure to wear a seatbelt appear to have been factors in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office, and the Marinette County Medical Examiner’s Office. Also assisting at the scene were members of the Town of Stephenson Fire Department, Twin Bridge Rescue, and Oconto Falls Ambulance Service.
