Mackinac Bridge closed
This photo was captured by the Mackinac Bridge Authority at 10:35 a.m. Thursday from its camera located at the administration building in St. Ignace, looking south. The bridge is presently closed due to dangerous falling ice.
As of 10:30 a.m. Thursday, the Mackinac Bridge is closed to all traffic due to hazardous ice falling from the bridge cables and towers.
There is no expected schedule for reopening. When conditions improve, the bridge will be reopened to traffic.
The Mackinac Bridge Authority is monitoring the conditions at various points along the structure, and will post any updates here. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the bridge area to allow maintenance vehicles to operate and wait for the bridge to reopen before approaching.
If you are in the Straits area, please tune to AM 530 and 1610 for updates. Text “MacBridge” to 67283 to receive notification of the bridges reopening.
