DELTA COUNTY -- All citizens who have not voted early or by absentee ballot may do so tomorrow. Tuesday is Election Day; the polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

This is a midterm general election. Races on the ballot are those for Michigan governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, State Senate, State House, school boards, district court judge and others.

Two proposals are on the ballot, as well. The first asks whether the people of Michigan want a delegation to prepare a revision of the State Constitution for voter approval. The second is referred to as “money out of politics” and would prohibit parties with certain affiliations -- like utilities or others with government contracts -- from making financial campaign contributions towards offices that govern them.

People are encouraged to educate themselves on the issues and candidates. A voter guide assembled by the Delta County League of Women Voters contains comments from candidates; it was mailed out with the Sept. 25 Daily Press and may be viewed online at lwvdeltacounty.org. Most major party candidates also have their own websites that list their campaign values and goals.

Early voting in Michigan concluded on Sunday. While all Delta County residents were able to vote early at Wells Township Hall, it is at stations in each municipality where people will cast ballots tomorrow.

To find where to vote, people may check the Michigan Voter Information Center at mvic.sos.state.mi.us. Sample ballots may also be found on the same site.

Anyone who is not yet registered to vote may do so in person at their polling place on Election Day or beforehand at their local city or township clerk’s office with photo identification and proof of residence.

People who requested absentee ballots and have not managed to send them in yet should drop them off in-person at an election dropbox instead of by mail so that they are received in time to be counted.

Starting at /week.
