Three races, seven hopefuls, one evening

By For the Daily Press 2 min read

ESCANABA -- A forum giving candidates of three races the opportunity to share their ideas with voters is set for Oct. 14.

Hosted by the Delta County League of Women Voters at Escanaba City Hall at 6:30 p.m. that evening, the forum will feature races in the following order: 94th District Court, 108th Michigan House and 38th Michigan Senate.

“In a time when political opinions are being shaped by social media, sound bites and advertising, candidate forums offer something increasingly rare: a direct, unfiltered opportunity to hear from the candidates,” wrote Sue Scheeneman from the DCLWV.

Since 1920, the LWV has helped educate voters and hosting nonpartisan candidate forums.

In Escanaba on Wednesday, attendees can expect to hear from the following candidates: Trent Stupak, Andrew Hayse, Larry Johnson, Rachel Keys, Sara Cambensy, Dave Prestin and Kelli van Ginhoven.

The forum will be live-streamed on the City of Escanaba website and on the Delta County League of Women Voters Facebook page, where it will remain available after the event as well. The broadcast is copyrighted and may not be used without permission from the DCLWV.

Early voting begins Oct. 4 and ends on Nov. 1 at the Wells Township Hall for all Delta County residents. Nov. 3 is Election Day.

Starting at /week.
