ESCANABA -- The American Red Cross has released a statement urging individuals in the region to donate blood or platelets. Donors of all blood types, especially those with type O blood, are needed.
This initiative is for the purpose of keeping blood supply steady ahead of the seasonal holiday rush.
As fall activities continue in local communities, keeping blood and platelet donation appointments on the books is crucial to ensuring hospitals have the tools they need to care for patients.
As thanks for participating, donors who give blood in the drives scheduled between Oct. 19 and Nov. 22 will recieve a monitary reward in the form of gift cards.
Visit RedCrossBlood.org, call 1-800-RED CROSS or use the Red Cross Blood Donor App to schedule a donation appointment.
November is aslo National Diabetes Awareness Month. To help empower and educate blood donors, successful donations will get free A1C testing, commonly used to screen for prediabetes and diabetes. (One result per calendar year; do not fast before donating.) For additional information on rewards for donating and A1C testing, see RedCrossBlood.org/Maze.
