SCHOOLCRAFT COUNTY -- A man has been arrested after allegedly threatening another person with a gun and firing shots at a vehicle in Thompson Township.
Guy Vertz, 42, was arraigned Thursday afternoon in the Schoolcraft County 93rd Judicial District Court on two counts of felonious assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of felony firearm, according to Schoolcraft County Prosecuting Attorney Timothy Noble. His bond was set at $25,000 cash/surety.
The charges stem from an incident that took place Tuesday. Troopers from the MSP Manistique Outpost and Gladstone Post responded at approximately 1:51 p.m. Tuesday to a report of an adult male threatening another person with a gun outside a residence on Flodin Road in Thompson Township.
Further investigation revealed Vertz allegedly fired shots at a vehicle and threatened another person. No one was injured or struck by gunfire, but a vehicle sustained damage, MSP reported.
Vertz was subsequently arrested and lodged in the Schoolcraft County Jail.
A second individual, whose name has not been released, was also arrested at the residence on an unrelated outstanding warrant, according to a MSP news release.
MSP was assisted by Michigan Department of Natural Resources conservation officers and the Schoolcraft County Sheriff’s Office. The Schoolcraft County Prosecutor’s Office urges anyone with information on the incident to reach out to the MSP Manistique Outpost by calling 906-341-2102.
Vertz is set to appear in court again for a probable cause conference on Thursday, Oct. 22.
