GLADSTONE -- A woman who relocated to Lake Bluff three years ago after operating a cleaning business in Oregon for 25 years started offering her experience to residents of the Gladstone area in May with a new operation: Little Bay Cleaning Services LLC.

As a one-woman operation, Little Bay Cleaning offers services primarily for general residential cleaning. Owner-operator Lorielee Russell is reportedly dedicated, detailed, and skilled.

Perhaps a bit of an artist's eye helps her attention to detail.

"If I’m not cleaning, I’m creating," Russell shared. "Before I started cleaning years ago, I went to school to be a floral designer but found I didn’t like working long hours and days around the holidays when I wanted most be with my family, so I turned to my next favorite thing to do, and that was cleaning."

In Salem, Oregon, Russell ran A+ Cleaning Service. Over two decades in business helped provide her with know-how and practice.

A few years ago, she moved to Gladstone to be near her mother and sister. While Russell appreciates that the cost of living in the Upper Peninsula is more affordable than out in the Pacific Northwest, she still wanted a little extra income to help pay the bills, so Little Bay Cleaning Services was born.

Since launching in May, she's picked up a few clients, some of whom are recurring. Little Bay Cleaning provides weekly, biweekly or monthly cleaning jobs; one-time deep cleans; vacation and rental property cleaning; and cleaning after move-out or before a move-in.

For the busy homeowner, hiring a cleaner can relieve stress and open up time. When Little Bay Cleaning is hired, Russell brings all her own supplies; she said it makes the process more efficient.

Most average jobs take Little Bay Cleaning about three hours, Russell said.

"I’ve got it down to pretty good routine, and I can get a lot done in three hours." Laughing, she added, "It amazes people what I can do in three hours."

Of course, there are gigs that take far longer -- it all depends on the size and state of a place. Recently, Russell said, she accepted a large multi-day job cleaning a three-story house, putting in 30 hours of labor.

Because every setting is a little bit different, Russell operates by first doing a free walk-through with a potential client. In those meetings, she assesses the premises, then provides the client with a price and timeline and offers to schedule an appointment for the actual cleaning.

Especially with winter on its way, Russell prefers to stick to the Gladstone area. Being based on the bluff, she said that her ideal customers would live in the same town, but she's able to take jobs in Rapid River and Escanaba as well.
