Hunters urged to watch for signs of missing man

By Sophie Vogelmann 3 min read

STEPHENSON -- As hunting season draws people into the woods, the family of Brett Parrett is asking hunters to keep watch for any clues that could help bring the missing 34-year-old Stephenson man home.

Hunters in Stephenson and surrounding areas are encouraged to be on the lookout for anything unusual, including a backpack, clothing or other personal belongings. Anyone who comes across something suspicious or out of the ordinary should avoid disturbing the item or surrounding area and report the discovery to law enforcement immediately.

Jaimie Parrett, who is married to Brett's brother, Brent, said the family is learning to navigate a new normal -- one they never imagined they would face.

"Brett's daughter is surrounded by so much love and support, and we will continue to make sure she has the best future possible. But she deserves answers,” Jaimie said. “She deserves closure, and she deserves the opportunity to heal without a lifetime of wondering what happened to her dad."

As the family continues to search for answers, they hope hunters will keep Brett in mind while spending time outdoors.

Brett was last seen at the Wild Eagle Bar & Grill in Stephenson on April 5, wearing a Green Bay Packers jersey, Green Bay Packers knit cap, dark pants, white headphones, black and white Air Jordans and a gray backpack.

Shortly before midnight on April 5, Brett called his young daughter, Brileigh, and told her he was walking along County Road G-12 west of Stephenson, he had been walking for 45 minutes or so, he was lost and his phone was about to die.

That phone call is the last known communication from Brett. The Parrett family reported Brett missing to law enforcement the following evening.

A development in Brett’s case came on April 7, when Jaimie and a friend searched along County Road G-12, hoping to find clues about Brett’s whereabouts.

During that search, Jaimie found Brett’s Green Bay Packers hat roughly five miles from the woman’s home where he had been before walking to meet his friends.

Since then, several searches have been conducted in the area, though no other sign of Brett has turned up.

The Parrett family remains hopeful their loved one will be found.

"Enjoy the hunt, stay safe, and please help us bring Brett home -- one way or another. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for keeping Brett and his family in your thoughts,” Jaimie said.

Those who have information regarding Brett’s disappearance are encouraged to contact the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office at 906-863-4441.
