CORNELL TOWNSHIP -- Six fire departments responded to a fire in rural Delta County on Tuesday morning. The affected house was a complete loss, but no injuries were reported.

It was around 3:30 a.m. that Delta County Central Dispatch alerted the Cornell Volunteer Fire Department to a structure fire at 11494 Boney Falls H. Rd. in Cornell.

Assisting response came from Escanaba Township Fire Department, Tri-Township Fire Department, Baldwin Township Fire Department, Brampton Township Volunteer Fire Department, Escanaba Public Safety, Rampart and JC Property Maintenance, relayed Fire Chief Greg Larson in Cornell.

Occupants were not in the residence by time responders arrived, he noted.

Built just 30 years ago, the approximately 2,400-square-foot two-bedroom residence sold earlier this year, according to Zillow. It sits on a 14.5-acre lot in Cornell Township.

It took over four hours before the blaze was extinguished and the property had reached a stage at which it could be left unattended. Emergency personnel cleared the scene around 8 a.m.

No indication of what had caused the fire was shared on Tuesday.
