BARK RIVER -- The Delta County Cancer Alliance, along with the Church Brewery in Bark River, hosted a Brews for Boobs fundraising event on Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m.
This was the first of what organizers hope will become an annual event to raise awareness of breast cancer and fundraise for the DCCA's local endeavors.
The event included multiple 50/50 raffles and prize basket raffles; a bake sale; and event shirt sales, the total proceeds of which have gone directly toward the DCCA and its support of local breast cancer patients. Partial proceeds from bar sales were also donated to the DCCA.
Raffle prizes were donated by local businesses and members of the community. According to Gayle DeShambo, DCCA president, the DCCA was approached with prize donations without the DCCA needing to reach out. She expressed her appreciation and pride in everyone who had come together to support the event.
A Crumbl Cookies team out of Midland, Michigan, set up outside the brewery and also donated a portion of proceeds to the DCCA. The Boppin' Betty food truck also set up on-site, providing food at the event. Local cover band SINGE provided live entertainment starting at 6 p.m. and running into the evening.
Community support was strong throughout the afternoon, filling both the indoor bar and outdoor seating areas. Local breast cancer survivors in attendance were honored with special sashes and gathered on the brewery staircase for a commemorative group photo.
The DCCA continues to accept support and donations at its Escanaba office, 1230 N. 18th St., Escanaba. More information can be found at deltacountycanceralliance.org.
