ESCANABA -- A residence near the Catherine Bonifas Civic Center in Escanaba was damaged by fire Wednesday morning.
At approximately 10:15 a.m., the Escanaba Department of Public Safety was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire at 220 N. 21st St. in the city, stated a press release from the department.
Responders were informed that no people or animals were inside, and two dogs had been safely removed from the house before firefighters reached the scene.
“Upon arrival, officers observed a significant amount of fire on the main level of the residence, with smoke throughout the structure,” the statement continued.
“Officers deployed attack lines and quickly extinguished the fire. Personnel remained on scene for approximately two hours.”
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident, but the structure sustained fire, smoke, and water damage. Caution tape was placed around the residence to warn people to keep clear.
The Escanaba Department of Public Safety was assisted by Delta County Central Dispatch, DTE, the City of Escanaba Electrical Department, Mobile Medical Response, and the American Red Cross.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
