Every year, the Department of Natural Resources manages the forests to keep them healthy and help prevent wildfires. This includes cutting and thinning trees, prescribed burning and planting new trees. These actions are planned two years in advance.
Now is the public’s chance to provide input for actions that will be taken in 2028 at the Escanaba Management Unit Open House. The DNR's Forest Resources Division is asking for public input online or at our public Open House. Go to the MI State Forest Map Application at Michigan.gov/ForestInput and click on your area of interest to find out what forest management prescriptions are planned or attend the Escanaba Open House scheduled for October 1, 2026 between 2 and 5 p.m. CDT at the Spalding Township Hall, N15881 Pine St., Powers, MI 49874.
Your input will be used to make final decisions on forest management actions. Those decisions will be made at meetings known as Compartment Reviews. You may also attend those meetings, but the Open House is the best place to offer input.
