I have had the opportunity to present at the Delta Force Economic Development Day since 2014. Every year I come away from the session impressed with the individuals that participated in that particular class. The program remains very instrumental in helping develop and enhance leadership skills in the participants. The program was developed by the Delta County Chamber in 2003. Every year attracting about 25 participants that are sponsored by their employers. Most leadership programs in other areas last about 5 years and are put on the shelf. 23 years of very strong local participation from businesses, students and facilitators shows how important the program has been as an effective leadership development initiative.
The great thing about the program is you actually learn many things that would surprise you, even if you have lived in the area for many years. You will have the opportunity to learn about Media and Communications, Health and Human Services, Law and Order, Community Leadership and your personality, History and Culture, Government, Environmental Awareness, Education and Economic Development prior to graduation at the Chamber Annual Dinner. Facilitators do a great job of mixing in interesting speakers and tours of different locations to exceed expectations on their particular day and subject.
Delta Force Economic Development Day occurred this week. Participants had an opportunity to get an overview of future and recently completed projects. Initiatives to make the local economy stronger. The value of Downtown Development Authorities, Chamber of Commerce, Small business support tools, area initiatives and UP wide collaborative projects. The leaders share their vision for the future, & it looks very bright for Delta County. The participants also had a tour of VanAire and EMP. Two businesses that are great examples of successful businesses that understand community and employee support.
The 2026 Delta Force Class will be recognized for their participation, leadership, learning during their sessions. They will select a speaker that will address the crowd at the annual dinner prior to their graduation. The person will share their experience in the program and the relationships they built during the year.
