GLADSTONE -- A high-speed chase near the Gladstone High School in the early morning hours of Saturday resulted in an arrest.

According to the Gladstone Public Safety Department, at approximately 4:49 a.m. Saturday, a Gladstone Public Safety Officer observed a vehicle traveling north on M35 by the Gladstone High School at a high rate of speed.

The officer reportedly attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver failed to stop. The pursuit continued, with speeds reaching more than 80 miles per hour.

The chase ended when the fleeing driver crashed into a "Road closed" barricade on E. Mapleridge Road. The officer subsequently conducted a high-risk stop and placed the driver into custody.

The investigation that followed determined the suspect stole the vehicle from Menominee County earlier in the day, according to the Gladstone Public Safety Department.

The suspect was treated at OSF St. Francis Hospital and lodged at the Delta County Jail on charges of receiving and concealing stolen property, fleeing and eluding and driving without a license.

Gladstone Public Safety was unable to release the identity of the suspect at the time of publication.
