Rollover occupant uninjured

WELLS TOWNSHIP -- A rollover accident that landed one vehicle in the ditch of County Road 426 in the early afternoon on Saturday caused traffic backups but no injuries.

Just northwest of the Billerud paper mill on 426, also called M.5 Road, an SUV went off the road and down a steep ditch, rolling to land on its side shortly after 12 p.m.

Though emergency responders were initially under the impression that there was entrapment of two people inside the vehicle, it turned out that the sole occupant of the vehicle — the driver — managed to get out without the Jaws of Life and reported no injuries, said law enforcement on the scene.

Traffic was slowed to one direction at a time when the police first arrived; once Gene’s Towing & Recovery began working to pull the vehicle out, vehicle flow halted. The roadway was reopened soon after.

Responders included Delta County Central Dispatch, City of Escanaba Public Safety, Delta County Sheriff, the Department of Natural Resources and Gene’s Towing.

Starting at /week.
