Ribbon cutting held for new park additions in Soo Hill

SOO HILL -- A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Wednesday to commemorate the addition of new playground equipment at a park in Soo Hill, at the end of Highland 17.6 Dr, Escanaba.
The main items of celebration are the new play structure recently added on site, as well as the recently constructed dog park and renovations to the close-by baseball field also completed over the summer.
These projects follow an ongoing initiative to continually improve the site for public recreational use, which saw the addition of two pickleball courts on site a few years ago. Concrete work was also done around the pickleball court as part of the work done this summer.
"We tried to do as much this year as possible, to help our community," said Tony Millette, Wells Township supervisor. "This place has been neglected for years and it was time to start rebuilding it."
A broad coalition of local businesses and community organizations contributed labor, materials, and services to complete the renovations:
-- North Country Heavy Equipment School excavated the site and assisted with playground assembly.
-- Delta Fence installed all new fencing on the site, while Dombrowski Tree Service helped remove old fencing around the baseball field.
-- Rock Road Masonry poured the concrete pad near the pickleball courts.
-- A&M Roofing repaired the dugout roofs, while the Gladstone Gladiators assisted with field prep and painted the dugouts and storage building.
-- Wells Lions Club provided volunteer labor for the playground construction.
-- D&M Subs, Five Corners Market, Elmer’s County Market, and the Wells Lionesses provided and served meals to the work crews throughout the project.
The playground structure was purchased from Penchura, which also assisted with installation. Additional funding for the baseball field renovations was provided through a Hannahville Indian Community 2 percent grant, and a new security camera system was installed on-site by Endless Business Solutions.
Future additions are being considered, including a pavilion and possibly a walking track. All possibilities are still being discussed and plans remain tentative.
