Delta County Parks employees and members from the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians, the Hannahville Indian Community of Potawatomi, the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community and other interested parties attend a naming ceremony on Saturday at the Ziibing Pavilion at Pioneer Trail Park. Built in 2014, the pavilion was renamed and affixed with a new sign featuring art by Sherri Loonsfoot Aldred and Aiyana Aldred to honor the original use of the land along the Escanaba River by Anishnaabe people. Those present listened to a description of the elements in the new sign by the artist, intent behind the renaming by the parks manager, and the importance of protecting the water and environment along with spiritual traditions by a cultural leader.
