GARDEN - The case involving a convicted felon from Garden who was arrested after Michigan State Police (MSP) discovered he was in possession of over three dozen firearms, methamphetamine and other evidence has been bound over to the Delta County 47th Circuit Court.
Bruce Rochefort, 56, appeared in the Delta County 94th District Court before Judge Steve Parks Thursday, during which he waived a preliminary examination and his case was bound over to Circuit Court.
Rochefort was arraigned June 26 on one count of possession of methamphetamine, one count of possession of analogues, three counts of weapons — firearms possession by prohibited person, two counts of weapon — firearms ammunition possession by prohibited person and one count of carrying concealed weapon.
The charges stem from an investigation that began when law enforcement from the MSP Manistique Outpost learned of an individual who was suspected of being in possession of firearms and was a convicted felon.
Troopers then confirmed that the suspect, Rochefort, was a convicted felon and was prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition, according to MSP.
On June 25, a search warrant was executed on Rochefort’s vehicle after he was located in Gladstone.
During the search of the vehicle, troopers located and seized a black pneumatic gun, a double-edged sword measuring more than 18 inches in length, hydrocodone pills and ammunition in four different calibers.
A search warrant was executed at Rochefort's home in Garden Township that same day. Troopers located and seized 39 firearms, including rifles, shotguns and handguns, along with a large quantity of assorted ammunition, drug paraphernalia and a small amount of methamphetamine.
Rochefort was subsequently taken into custody and lodged in the Delta County Jail before being released on a $20,000 cash/surety bond. His next court appearance has not been scheduled at the time of this publication.
