Dubord sworn in as Delta County clerk and register of deeds

ESCANABA -- Residents of Delta County can except to see a new but familiar face heading the Delta County Clerk’s Office.

Susanne Dubord was sworn in as Delta County clerk and register of deeds in the Delta County Courthouse on Thursday by 47th Circuit Court Judge John Economopoulos.

Current clerk and register of deeds, Nancy Przewrocki, is set to retire Oct. 1 after 26 years in office.

Dubord worked in the Delta County Clerk’s Office for almost 18 years before retiring in February. She has now come out of retirement to once again serve the people of Delta County.

Beginning in 2009, Dubord worked as the elections and vital records clerk until she became chief deputy county clerk in 2017.

Economopoulos told attendees of the swearing in that he is confident in Dubord's ability to take over Przewrocki's position as "the baton is being passed."

"I was fortunate to have the duty to appoint a successor for Nancy’s office, and I went through a process -- a rigorous process, a transparent process -- of ensuring that Delta County’s service in that office remains elite," Economopoulos said. “The duty of the county clerk is to really have a finger on the pulse of the people. If the court is a people’s court, then the county clerk’s office is the people’s office, and having Sue in that capacity, serving, is something I feel wonderful about. I’m very grateful that she was willing to serve Delta County in this way."

Different technological changes will also be coming to the Delta County Clerk’s Office. MiFile, the Michigan judiciary’s electronic filing system for filing and serving documents online, will be implemented in the clerk's office in the near future.

Economopoulos continued, "I think ultimately, with (Dubord) having worked with the staff, she’s going to be able to forge ahead with a new frontier for the county clerk’s office, which will include changes, technological changes -- really a sea change of improvements, or at least perceived improvements -- for the betterment of streamlining services to the people, filing changes… and having Sue at the helm for that next step is going to be critical."

Przewrocki also said a few words at Dubord's swearing in ceremony.

"I just want to say that it’s been an honor serving Delta County for almost 26 years, and all I can say is I’ve had the best staff," Przewrocki said. "I’ve had Sue, Hope, Janine and Kylee -- fantastic, fantastic employees. I couldn’t ask for better employees, and it’s made my life and my job much easier. So, I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, because that is a busy office. We deal with so much, and they’ve always stepped up. They’ve given the best service to the public that they could possibly do, and to me."

After Dubord was sworn in, she addressed Economopoulos and the gallery.

"Thank you, Judge, for having the confidence in me to appoint me to this position. I consider it a great honor. Nancy, thank you so much for hiring me. That was a long time ago," Dubord said. "I hope to be able to bring some continuity of service to this position and to keep the folks of Delta County, to keep everything rolling along, to keep the election moving, just to keep everything running smoothly. There are some things that I’ll need to brush up on, but I think I’ve got a pretty good grasp of how the process works. Of course, the court stuff I do understand quite well, and I’m looking forward to getting us on MiFile."

While the oath was administered Thursday, the order of appointment will officially install Dubord as the Delta County clerk and register of deeds effective midnight Oct. 3.
