Community members appointed to airport board

ESCANABA -- The Delta County Board of Commissioners voted Tuesday to increase the membership of the Delta County Airport Advisory Board (AAB) from seven to nine members.
During regular meeting, commissioners voted to amend a resolution increasing the membership on the AAB, which consists of two county commissioners, one member from each district and now two members at large, preferably with backgrounds in economic development or aviation.
The board also appointed two new members to the AAB -- David Deno and William Taylor. The recent appointments leave one remaining seat open for district one.
Other members of the AAB include Brian Herioux, chair; Dee Dee Anderson-Skradski, vice chair; Matthew Jensen, Delta County Board representative; Kelli van Ginhoven, Delta County Board representative; Steven Viau, member at large; Will Carne, member at large; and Ashleigh Young, Delta County Airport manager.
In other business, commissioners:
-- Approved Delta County Prosecuting Attorney Lauren Wickman’s request to appoint Jason Pernick to serve remotely as a special assistant prosecuting attorney for the county. According to Wickman’s request, the prosecutor’s office has received minimal application interest in the county’s open assistant prosecutor position
-- Approved the 2026 L-4029 winter tax rate at 3.6860.
-- Approved the Michigan Department of Transportation's offer to the county to acquire consent to grade rights for their project along US-2 at the county’s property located at 1027 N Lincoln Rd for $600.
-- Permitted the county to begin soliciting proposals for audit services for financial years 2026 through 2028 following the finance committee's recommendation. Completed proposals must be received by Sept. 30 at 2 p.m., and bids open Oct. 2 at 1 p.m. The board is set to award a bid on Oct. 6.
-- Permitted the county to begin soliciting proposals for investor services. The accepted investor firm would reportedly assist in taking over the defined benefit accounts for former/current employees. Completed proposals must be received by Sept. 14 at 2 p.m., and bids open at 3 p.m. that same day. The board is expected to award a bid no later than on Sept. 15.
-- Extended the Delta County Opioid Taskforce's deadline for request for proposal submittals for fiscal year 2027 to Sept. 25 following the taskforce’s request. The taskforce is expected to review submissions Oct. 2.
-- Appointed Rawan Hinzman to fill an open seat on the Delta County Construction and Zoning Board of Appeals and the Delta County Brownfield Authority.
