A sign welcoming traffic to the City of Escanaba from the north requests, in no uncertain terms, that people visit downtown.
Escanaba businesses have struggled this year and in 2025 due to a lack of vehicular and foot traffic on and near the torn-up main street; many people choose to avoid going into town because of the many road closures. But sidewalks have been poured along much of Ludington Street now, and businesses continue to remain open to passersby.
The latest update from the city is that Ludington Street paving is scheduled to begin on Aug. 26. (R. R. Branstrom | Daily Press)
