DELTA COUNTY — Saturday might be last day of National Farmers Market Week, but gatherings of outdoor vendors continue as summer chugs along.
In Rapid River, a farmers market is held on Mondays and Thursdays from 3 to 6 p.m. at Masonville Township Park. Hosted under a covered pavilion, the event goes on rain or shine. Organizers plan to keep the season going until the second week of October.
Gladstone’s farmers market is also on Monday from 3 to 6 p.m. In the town’s market square at 907 Delta Ave., over two dozen vendors participate regularly, accompanied by live music from local bands. The next musician on their docket (for Aug. 10) is Jack Neumann.
Manistique’s farmers market is scheduled to continue throughout the end of October. Artisans and bakers and such set up in the Schoolcraft County city’s triangle park — formed by Arbutus Avenue, South Cedar Street and Oak Street — on Wednesdays from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
The farmers market in Escanaba is open Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the marketplace, an elevated covered pavilion at the corner of Ludington and 15th Streets.
These markets, which began as a way for farmers to get their freshly-grown fruits and vegetables before the public, are now also a way for small businesses, home bakers, crafters and photographers to sell their products and creations.
