Menominee man sentenced to prison on meth, firearm charges

MENOMINEE -- A Menominee man was recently sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to methamphetamine and firearm charges.
Shane Allen Konell, 51, was sentenced July 10 in the Menominee County 41st Circuit Court to concurrent prison terms of five to 10 years for possession of meth and a separate count of receiving and concealing a firearm.
Konell pleaded guilty to the offenses in April. In exchange for Konell's plea, Menominee County Prosecuting Attorney Jeffrey T. Rogg dismissed charges of habitual offender -- fourth offense notice; felon in possession of weapons -- ammunition; weapons felony firearm; and assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer.
According to court records, Konell was arrested Oct. 28, 2025, after police apprehended him while he was fleeing in a taxicab from a local hotel, where he had been using illegal drugs and what Rogg referred to as "conducting his latest criminal enterprise" in conjunction with Jeffrey Raymond Donner, 40, also of Menominee.
Upon his arrest, Konell had meth, a stolen .32-caliber pistol and property stolen from the residence of a 69-year-old homeowner who was undergoing treatment at a nursing home.
Donner was seen Oct. 28, 2025, while he was fleeing from the 69-year-old’s home in the 2100 block of 15th Ave in Menominee, though he was not arrested and arraigned until January 2026.
Among the items Donner stole were rare coins, cash saved for funeral expenses, weapons and a Purple Heart Medal earned by the homeowner’s father during his WWII service in Europe.
Donner was sentenced in May to concurrent prison terms of two and a half to 10 years for possession of meth and two and a half to 5 years in prison for third-degree home invasion. He pleaded guilty in March.
Konell has 11 prior felony convictions and 16 misdemeanor convictions dating back to 1991. Rogg described him as an “unrepentant and dangerous career criminal.”
"Mr. Konell has been preying upon the citizens of Menominee for 35 years," Rogg said. "The only way the community can be safe from this predator is for him to be locked in a cell."
