Marinette K9 detects fentanyl, black tar heroin

GROVER, WISCONSIN-- A Marinette K9 detected illegal drugs -- some of which included fentanyl and black tar heroin -- during a traffic stop last week in the Town of Grover, resulting in two arrests.

Jason Douglas Mills, 45, of Niagara, Wisconsin, faces charges including one count of possession with intent to deliver cocaine - party to a crime second and subsequent offense, a felony; one count of possession with intent to deliver fentanyl - party to a crime second and subsequent offense, a felony; one count of possession of cocaine - party to a crime second and subsequent offense, a felony; one count of possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine - party to a crime second and subsequent offense, a felony; one count of possession of narcotic drugs - party to a crime second and subsequent offense, a felony; one count of maintaining a drug trafficking place - party to a crime second and subsequent offense, a felony; and one count of felony bail jumping.

Also arrested was Shannon Marie Unrein, 52, formerly of Vulcan, whose address has since been updated to Niagara, Wisconsin. Unrein faces one count of possession with intent to deliver cocaine - party to a crime second and subsequent offense, a felony; one count of possession with intent to deliver fentanyl - party to a crime second and subsequent offense, a felony; one count of possession of cocaine - party to a crime second and subsequent offense, a felony; one count of possession of methamphetamine, a felony; one count of possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine - party to a crime second and subsequent offense, a felony; and one count of maintaining a drug trafficking place - party to a crime second and subsequent offense, a felony.

According to a press release, the charges stem from an incident on Saturday, Aug. 15, at approximately 5:04 a.m. when a patrol deputy form the Marinette County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation at US Highway 41 near Rodney Lane in the Town of Grover.

During the traffic stop, Marinette County Sheriff's Office K9 Bouwa was deployed and alerted to the odor of illegal drugs. A total of 48.115 grams of cocaine/fentanyl, 32.055 grams of methamphetamine, 14.770 grams of cocaine and 4.570 grams of black tar heroin were located and seized.

Both Mills and Unrein were arraigned Thursday in the Marinette County Circuit Court of Wisconsin, during which Marinette County Circuit Court Branch 2 Judge James Morrison set a cash bond of $25,000 for Mills and a $20,000 cash bond for Unrein. Morrison also issued a no contact order between the co-defendants.

Mills and Unrein are scheduled to appear back in court on Sept. 21.
