Manistique man faces 31 counts of criminal sexual charges

MANISTIQUE -- A Manistique man is facing 31 counts of multiple criminal sexual conduct charges, including first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a person under 13.
Charles Edward Blasingame, 53, is charged with one count of first degree criminal sexual conduct - person under 13 years old, a felony; one count of first degree criminal sexual conduct multiple variables, a felony; two counts of second degree criminal sexual conduct - person under 13, defendant 17 or older, a felony; nine counts of child abusive commercial activity, a felony; nine counts of child sexually abusive material - aggravated possession, a felony; and nine counts of using computers to commit a crime - maximum imprisonment of 10 years, a felony.
Blasingame is charged as a habitual offender - third conviction. He was lodged at the Schoolcraft County Jail Jan. 23 and remains there on a $250,000 cash/surety bond.
According to Michigan court records, the offenses resulting in the above charges date back to 2017.
Blasingame will appear in the Schoolcraft County 11th Circuit Court on Aug. 24 for a status conference. He also is scheduled to attend two additional status conferences in separate cases -- one involving methamphetamine and weapons charges that allegedly occurred in 2024 and another involving distributing or promoting child sexually abusive activity that allegedly took place in 2023.
In the latter, Blasingame faces 10 counts of using a computer to communicate with another person to commit a crime, a felony; 10 counts of aggravated distributing or promoting child sexually abusive activity, a felony; one count of using a computer to commit a crime, a felony with maximum imprisonment of 10 years; and one count of aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material, a felony.
He is charged as a habitual offender - third conviction in that case, as well.
