ESCANABA — Despite predicted light rain and possible thunderstorms for the day, crews are proceeding with the plan to begin laying asphalt on Ludington Street as scheduled — today, Aug. 26.

Currently, the sixth to 17th blocks of the main drag are inaccessible to traffic, with the exception of a crossing on 10th Street. The first step of paving will be the western end of the construction zone, from 10th to 16th Streets, and is expected to take about six days, weather-permitting.

The eastern blocks that remain closed — from the Daily Press to Grab & Go — will be paved after that.

Residents and motorists are asked to continue to stay off the roadway until the street has been reopened.
