Large search conducted for Starla Goings
Multiple FBI teams, local and state agencies involved

ALGER COUNTY -- The Alger County Sheriff's Office announced an update in the search for Starla Goings, a woman who has been missing for just over one year.
According to the agency, a large-scale search effort began Thursday, Aug. 20 and concluded this Thursday in the 16 Mile Lake area, as well as surrounding areas, as part of the ongoing investigation into Goings' disappearance.
Goings, 65, was last seen on Aug. 15, 2025. Her 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan was found two days later in the vicinity of 16 Mile Lake and M-94.
Multiple local, state and federal agencies assisted the Alger County Sheriff's Office with the search efforts.
Participating agencies and resources included the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) -- including the FBI Underwater Search and Evidence Recovery Team, Evidence Response Team, Aviation Support and Canine Teams -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Cook County Sheriff's Office K9 Unit, Detroit Police Department Missing Persons Unit, Michigan State Police, Michigan Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officers and U.S. Forest Service.
In their press release, the Alger County Sheriff's Office stated significant efforts in the search for Goings have been conducted and will continue.
"All agencies involved in this investigation are committed and will continue the investigative process," said the Alger County Sheriff's Office.
In October, police suggested Goings may have been the victim of foul play.
Goings' daughter, Steffanie Goings, said she previously last spoke with her mother on Aug. 15, 2025, and that Starla said at that time she was at the Upper Peninsula State Fair in Escanaba. That was reportedly the last time Steffanie heard from her mother.
Results from the recent search efforts were undisclosed at the time of publication.
