WAUSAUKEE, Wis. -- Two elderly residents were found dead Friday after a house explosion and fire on Finnel Road in Wausaukee, Wisconsin.
According to the Marinette County Sheriff's Office, Marinette County Dispatch received a report of a residential explosion at approximately 10:34 a.m. Friday.
The Wausaukee Fire Department and Wausaukee Rescue, along with Marinette County sheriff's deputies, responded to the scene. Upon arrival, the residence was fully engulfed in flames.
After firefighters completed suppression efforts, crews searched the residence and located two occupants, who were removed from the home and pronounced dead at the scene.
The residents were identified by law enforcement as Roger N. McClellan, 81, of Wausaukee and Barbara A. McClellan, 79, of Wausaukee.
The fire remains under investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Justice State Fire Marshals, Marinette County Sheriff’s Office and the Marinette County Medical Examiner’s Office.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the McClellan family during this difficult time,” Marinette County Sheriff Randy P. Miller said in a press release.
Assisting at the scene were personnel from Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Fire, Amberg Fire, Mellen Township Fire, Middle Inlet Fire, Beecher Dunbar Pembine Fire, Athelstane Fire and Crivitz Fire.
