Daggett woman pleads guilty, agrees to testify against fiancé in sex abuse case

DAGGETT -- A Daggett woman who faced multiple counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct has pleaded guilty to one count and agreed to testify against her fiancé, who faces similar charges in the case.
According to court documents, Rocquel Anne Irving, 39, appeared in the Menominee County 41st Circuit Court in July and pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a person under the age of 13.
In exchange for her plea, the prosecution agreed to dismiss five felony counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a person under the age of 13; one felony count of second degree criminal sexual conduct involving a person under the age of 13; one felony count of committing/procuring gross indecency between females; one felony count of accosting children for immoral purposes; and one misdemeanor count of selling or furnishing alcohol to a minor.
Irving is expected to testify against Travis Scott Thiry, 45, at his upcoming jury trial that is set to begin Oct. 12, court documents indicate. According to Thiry's social media, the pair are engaged.
Thiry faces 11 felony counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a person under the age of 13; one felony count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a person under the age of 13; one felony count of conspiracy to commit a legal act in an illegal manner; one felony count of delivering a controlled substance -- a narcotic or cocaine -- to a minor; one felony count of accosting children for immoral purposes; and one misdemeanor count of selling or furnishing alcohol to a minor.
Court records also list Thiry as a fourth-time habitual offender.
The charges stem from an investigation by the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office that resulted in detectives and deputies executing a search warrant at a residence in Lake Township on Jan. 28.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the investigation had been underway for approximately one week before the search warrant was executed.
Irving and Thiry were subsequently arrested and lodged in the Menominee County Jail on $750,000 cash bonds. Irving remains in jail, while Thiry is now serving a prison sentence for a separate case.
Both were arraigned in the Menominee County 95A District Court on Jan. 29.
Under Michigan law, a conviction for first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a victim under 13 generally is punishable by up to life in prison or any term of years, but not less than 25 years, when committed by an individual who is 17 or older.
Irving is scheduled to be sentenced in the 41st Circuit Court Sept. 4.
Thiry is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 25 for a pretrial conference. A hearing related to a separate case in which Thiry faces various weapons charges is also scheduled for that date.
The weapons case is not Thiry's only separate legal matter. In April, he was sentenced to a minimum of 23 months in prison, with a maximum term of five years, after pleading guilty to one felony count of second-degree fleeing a police officer.
