Summer sidewalk sale postponed

ESCANABA-- The Escanaba Downtown Development Authority (DDA) has announced that the annual Summer Sidewalk Sales, scheduled for today, July 24, have been officially postponed until Friday, August 14.
The delay is required to allow construction crews more time to replace pedestrian walkways as part of the city’s major infrastructure work.
"Our priority is ensuring a safe, comfortable, and accessible shopping environment for both our community members and our visitors," said Escanaba Downtown Development Authority Director Craig Woerpel. "By shifting the event to August 14, we can ensure that more of our brand-new, expanded sidewalks are fully installed, allowing our downtown merchants to showcase their products safely and successfully."
The ongoing infrastructure project on Ludington Street has significantly impacted a 10-block section of the downtown. Most of the sidewalks were removed from the city blocks to facilitate the installation of underground sanitary, sewer and water lines.
While progress continues, the DDA has determined that the sidewalks are not yet uniform or accessible enough to safely host the foot traffic typical of the summer sales promotion.
The delay of sidewalk sales does not affect the RRN Block Party that is scheduled for tonight on South 11th Street. The event runs from 5 to 10 p.m. with music by Dueling Pianos, Larger Than Life and The Glam Band.
The DDA encourages all local retailers to take advantage of the extended timeline to prepare for the rescheduled event. Any business interested in participating in the upcoming downtown promotion can register online at escanabadda.org.
