RAPID RIVER — It’s been busy at the pub.
A week after the Rapid River Pub celebrated its 130th anniversary, the business hosted another large event — this time to raise money for the family of Stanley “Spike” Constantino, Jr., who died after a motorcycle crash on July 12.
The building at 10491 S. Main St. in Rapid River — originally called the Delta Cafe, which operated as a restaurant and hotel — is estimated to have been built around 1896. To recognize the history and thank pub patrons, owner Tom Scozinski collaborated with other local businesses to celebrate 130 years.
At the anniversary party, which was July 18, basket raffles raised $500 for Overdose Awareness of Delta County and $577 for donation to the Rapid River Lions Club, Scozinski reported. He estimated that about 200 people attended.
The event also featured a cornhole tournament, the Brisket Barn food truck and live music from Terry Creamer and Fyrbird.
On Wednesday, Russian-American band Igor and the Red Elvises played at what the pub calls “Rapid’s Landing,” a sizeable outdoor area on the south side of the Rapid River Pub with a music stage and picnic tables bordered by a tall fence.
Saturday brought Tom Edberg’s Sundown for another live music gig.
The gathering on Sunday invited community members to help support Constantino’s family. Attendance was high, and donations of multiple kinds were provided to the people Spike left behind. 100 percent of bucket raffle ticket sales went to the family, and the Rapid River Pub donated 10 percent of the day’s sales and 100% of bloody mary sales.
