NEWBERRY -- A 21-year-old man has been arrested following the death of a 40-year-old man, both residents of Newberry, in an alleged homicide.
At approximately 7:15 p.m. Sunday, deputies from the Luce County Sheriff's Office responded to a call in the 300 block of East John Street in Newberry regarding a reported stabbing, according to a news release.
Upon arrival, deputies made contact with a 47-year-old man, also from Newberry, who had allegedly been physically assaulted by a 21-year-old man suspect.
A 40-year-old man was also located in the yard of the residence suffering from multiple stab wounds. Despite emergency efforts, the 40-year-old man was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to the Luce County Sheriff’s Office.
The 47-year-old man sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The suspect, who is accused of assaulting both individuals, remained at the scene and was taken into custody without further incident.
Identities of those involved have been withheld pending family notification and formal arraignment of the suspect.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
