Menominee man arrested for assault with intent to commit murder

MENOMINEE TOWNSHIP -- A man in Menominee Township has been arrested after allegedly shooting at another person during an argument about cutting grass, the Menominee County Sheriff's Office reports.
Anthony Raymond Mech, 57, was arraigned Monday in the Menominee County 95A District Court. Mech is charged with one count of assault with intent to commit murder; one count of felony firearms; one count of felon in possession of firearms; and one count of felon in possession of ammunition, all felonies.
The charges stem from an incident that took place Saturday, when deputies from the Menominee County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a Menominee Township residence in reference to an individual shooting at another person during an argument about cutting grass.
After law enforcement investigated the incident, a search warrant was executed, according to a news release. Mech, a Menominee Township resident, was subsequently arrested.
Mech remains lodged at the Menominee County Jail on a $5,000 cash/surety bond.
The Menominee County Sheriff's Office was assisted by personnel from the Menominee City Police Department, the Michigan State Police, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Menominee County 911.
Mech will appear in court again on Aug. 10 for a probable cause conference.
According to Michigan court records, Mech has a criminal history in the state dating back to 2015. The charges for which Mech has been sentenced include, but are not limited to, assaulting, resisting or obstructing a police officer; operating while impaired by liquor; and driving with a suspended, revoked, or denied license.
