ESCANABA — Perry Johnson, Republican candidate for Michigan governor, is currently on a “Save the Ticket’ tour. On Friday, July 24, Johnson is holding a town hall / meet-and-greet at Upper Hand Brewery in Escanaba.
In announcing the tour, his campaign stated: “He will be traveling the state joined by some very important endorsements who are emphasizing that we need Perry as our nominee to save the ticket for Republicans and take the fight to Jocelyn Benson.”
The event is intended to discuss “property tax reform, income tax elimination, election integrity, and opposition to data centers in local communities,” according to a press release.
“Johnson, a management consultant, was part of a slate of Republicans to run against Whitmer in 2022. His nearly $8 million bid ended when the state's election bureau ruled he did not submit enough valid signatures required for nominating petitions. He also made a long shot bid for president ahead of 2024,” stated an Associated Press article when Johnson entered the gubernatorial race ion January.
Johnson’s time in Escanaba begins at 5:30 p.m. The brewery is located at 3525 Airport Rd.
