ESCANABA — After about a roughly 18-month investigation, law enforcement arrested a local 34-year-old man and seized drugs and cash from both his Escanaba home and another location in Gladstone.

Detectives from the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team (UPSET) had been investigating the suspect, who has not yet been identified, for cocaine distribution for about a year and a half, according to a press release issued Wednesday by the Michigan State Police.

Recently, the Delta County Prosecutor’s Office authorized a three-count felony warrant. The man was found at his residence and “arrested without incident,” the release states, adding that he was lodged at the Delta County Jail “on a variety of drug charges.”

Two pounds of cocaine, a small amount of ketamine, and over $24,000 was found and seized during further investigation.

“The cocaine was located at a separate property in the City of Gladstone and has a street value of approximately $55,000,” MSP stated.

The DEA, Escanaba Public Safety – K9, Delta County Sheriff Department, MSP Gladstone Post, Gladstone Public Safety, MDOC probation / parole, MSP TSU, and the Michigan Intelligence Operations Center assisted UPSET with this case.

The investigation is ongoing and the case is being reviewed by the Delta County Prosecutor’s Office for possible additional charges. The subject is considered innocent unless proven guilty.

UPSET is a multi-jurisdictional narcotics task force that serves the entire Upper Peninsula. In addition to providing assistance to local agencies and operating the only federally certified Clandestine Lab Team in the U.P., they promote narcotics awareness and education, offering presentations to various organizations. UPSET conducts over 300 narcotics-related investigations across the U.P. each year, according to their website.
