Fire burns attached garage on bluff

ESCANABA TOWNSHIP — On the evening of Monday, April 6, a structure fire brought multiple departments to a residence at 6144 Woodland P.1 Ave. — up on the bluff in Gladstone, but technically within Escanaba Township.

Crews were dispatched to the scene at approximately 8:42 p.m. By the time they arrived, an attached garage was fully engulfed in flames — as were two vehicles.

“Firefighters quickly made an aggressive attack, knocking the fire down and gaining entry to the garage, containing it to the garage and not spreading to the home,” read a report from the Escanaba Township Fire Department, the lead agency responding to the incident.

Gladstone Public Safety, Gladstone Electric Department, DTE Energy and Delta County Central Dispatch assisted.

Fire crews remained on scene for about two hours putting out hot spots. No residents or firefighters were injured, the report stated.

Starting at $3.50/week.
