Escanaba asks residents not to pump water into sanitary sewer

ESCANABA — As flooding from snow melt and rainfall overburdens systems, the City of Escanaba has asked residents to discontinue or divert sump pumps that flow to the sanitary sewer.

“If you are using a sump pump, it is possible you are contributing to the flooding of your neighbor’s house and/or your own home,” read a press release issued Monday morning by the Escanaba Water/Wastewater Department.

Pumps may be diverted to streets.

In areas and Delta and Menominee Counties and beyond, flooding has caused rivers to rise, roads to submerge and more.

The Menominee County Road Commission reported washouts and advises people not to attempt driving through flooded areas.

A detailed article on the effects of the wet conditions will be in Tuesday’s paper.

Starting at $3.50/week.
